As we welcome the new year, let us embark on a literary adventure. Cheryl Strayed's "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail" is like stepping onto the rugged trails of self-discovery. In the spirit of embracing the wild, let's pair this soul-stirring journey with the comforting delights of s'mores and a steaming cup of Rum Hot Chocolate.
Exploring the Wilderness of "Wild": Cheryl Strayed's memoir takes us on a transformative hike along the Pacific Crest Trail, offering insights into resilience, healing, and the beauty of the wilderness. As we delve into her experiences, we embark on our own journey of self- reflection.
S'mores: A Taste of Nostalgia: As we lose ourselves in Strayed's adventures, let's bring a touch of nostalgia with a classic camping treat – s'mores. The combination of gooey marshmallows, melted chocolate, and crisp graham crackers creates a sensory experience that complements the emotional depth of "Wild."
Classic S'mores Recipe:
Graham crackers
Marshmallows
Chocolate bars (milk chocolate or dark chocolate)
Start by breaking the graham crackers in half to form squares.
Place a piece of chocolate on one of the graham cracker halves.
Toast a marshmallow over an open flame until it reaches your desired level of golden brown. You can use a campfire, a gas stove, or a kitchen torch for toasting.
Place the toasted marshmallow on top of the chocolate, and then press the other graham cracker half on top to create a sandwich.
Allow the heat from the marshmallow to melt the chocolate slightly, creating the gooey texture of a classic S'more.
Press the two graham cracker halves together gently, and enjoy your delicious S'more!
Rum Hot Chocolate:
1 cup hot chocolate
1 ounce dark or spiced rum
Whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg for garnish
Happy R-E-D-ing!
